A long crossing of the Pennine moors from Shap to Kirkby Stephen on paths that feel empty compared with the Lakes. Exposed high ground, boggy sections after rain, and few villages between stops.

Kirkby Stephen is a proper market town with shops, cafes, and a choice of accommodation. Restock here - the next stages cross more remote Yorkshire Dales country.
